The MAE campaign was one of the first projects that actually made me realize how interconnected the studio classes are.  I took Fibers I and Printmaking I this past fall semester.  in both of those classes having a concept was vary important, as it is in this class.  i feel taking these classes have helped me to create a concept on which to build.  I still need to improve on fully utilizing said concept, but I definitely believe that i have become better at creating a concept on which to work.

Project 2 - Typography Promotion

  • Time Allotted - 12 Hours
  • Time Used - 3.6 Hours
    • Poster: 1.1 Hours
      • Research: 20 min.

    • Pamphlet: 1.7 hours
      • Illustration: 1hour
      • Layout: 45 min
    • Website Design- 50 min
The typography promotion...wow.  During this project my absolute disdain for Photoshop was only cemented further.  Who knew that changing a graphic from CMYK to Spot color would a) be so damn complicated and b) take at least twice the time it takes in...say....Illustrator?  I mean, I can understand the uses for Photoshop, but do they have to make it so damn complicated to do simple procedures???

      • Layout: 25 min.

    • Annimated Banner: 50 min.
The Jazz Combo Concert project helped me to see that size is not something to be afraid of.  During the revision process, I was told to keep upping the size of  "Jazz" and reducing the size of "Truman State University Department of Music".  up until this point i had always been afraid of making things too big; can't really explain why, but size always intimidated me.  After this project that intimidation has lessened quite a bit.  Go big or go home!

The herpetology project, at first was hell.  it was the first time i tried using a COB, and Photoshop was not wanting to cooperate.  It became...fun though.  That is..like totally taboo for a Vis Comm 2, but it was.  Rusty showed me what i was doing wrong, Photoshop actually did its job and the poster is, in my opinion, one of my best pieces.

    • National Geographic - iPad: 45 min
    • Time Magazine - Browser: 45 min
    • Time Magazine - iPhone: 45 min
    • Time Magazine - iPad: 45 min
Four words; I hate magazine spreads!!!!  the National Geographic spread was type light, which is fine...except for the fact that it leaves a ton of white space.  The Time Magazine spread had a Ton of type, which is vary constricting.  This was one of those projects that you just grit your teeth nd bare it.  I was able to see how all the other projects helped set this one up however.  But if I never see another spread again, it won't be soon enough.
